Our understanding of the role of genre in reading and writing instruction has shifted in recent years. We know that an over-reliance on genre level writing can leave some students with underdeveloped foundational skills, but too little focus on genre means that students aren't getting to the point of deeper comprehension and writing. We also know that there are more efficient and effective ways to manage instruction than separating reading and writing. In our latest 5 day email course, we will walk you through understanding where all the bits 'fit', how you can make decisions about how much time to spend on which elements of instruction and where the opportunities lie in creating connection in your literacy block so that we are building on our existing strengths rather than beginning from scratch.

In this 5 day email program you will:
- Build your understanding of the critical elements of instruction across your literacy block
- Learn about simple ways that you can create connection in your daily literacy instruction with simple shifts in teaching routines
- Plan to build student knowledge in a range of areas
- Think about ratios of foundational to more complex reading and writing skills and plan for instruction
- Learn an instructional routine to introduce a new concept to your students that includes both reading and writing

Which grades is this program for?
While any teacher or school leader will gain benefit from this program, we are focusing on instruction from Foundation - Year 6
I don't think I'll have time to watch clips daily. Can I still sign up?
Yes! Our clips are between 10-15 minutes each so if you can't watch/listen to one on the day it is released, you can catch up any time you like.
What is the cost for this program?
The Beyond Genre program is completely free for all participants.
Can I keep the clips?
Clips will be sent to you in an email each day for 5 days. You are more than welcome to save them to a folder in your inbox and watch them whenever you like or share them at staff meetings and in professional learning communities.
Are there assignments or homework?
While we provide the opportunity for reflection throughout the program, how you experience your new learning is up to you. There is no requirement for follow up work at all.
