A practical roadmap to help you focus on practices and principles of instruction, not programs.

While evidence-informed programs are now seen in a growing number of schools, that doesn't make the adoption of evidence-informed practices effortless or stress free.  The Reading Success in the Early Primary Years Teach Along will give you the confidence to make nuanced decisions about early years reading instruction, regardless of the program your school is using and get the best outcome for every student.

No matter your phonics program, Reading Success in the Early Primary Years is for you.

Jocelyn Seamer

“After a few years teaching Kinder (Foundation), I began to wonder how effective my teaching practices were. Not for the mainstream kids, but whether I was developing skills and knowledge to really help kids at both extremes. The Teach Along has given me confidence and new information to be more aware of the nuances in the teaching of reading that ensure I am reaching all of my students. I feel empowered to keep the momentum going and feel safe in the knowledge that my methods are based on the science of reading.”

Jocelyn Seamer

“The practical nature of this teach along is what sets the teach along apart from the many hours of PD I have self funded over the last few years. The way you simplify things for teachers and encourage us to trial teaching routines with what we have, instead of feeling like we need to run out and buy/laminate new materials all the time was so refreshing.”

Jocelyn Seamer

“The set up of the teach-a-long means I can take this at a pace that is conducive to learning. Small amounts of information is provided as short videos which I can refer back to as I need. This is brilliant!! Thank you for this as a resource I can look back on to help me consolidate what I am learning.
I really appreciate the time and effort you have made to make this all come together - the tech / templates / helpfulness. Love this! ”

Jocelyn Seamer

“So I’m busting to share! I’m in a low SEI school and every year without fail I have 5-6 kids that just never get there by the end of the year (PP). Now with the combination of Jocelyn Seamer Education Teach Alongs and other SoR practices I currently only have 2 kids that can not write and read cvc words. Without the change I would still have 5-6, but the can do it with teacher support AND it’s only half way through term 2!”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed this course, so practical and informative!! When I reached the end of module 9 I could honestly say that I had achieved my goals and answered all questions I had written down at the start.”

Jocelyn Seamer

“You made me feel like a professional and helped me to take the pressure off my expectations. I liked the goal setting sessions.

It is has just been so encouraging to know that this journey is a new one for Teachers all over Australia. I also really loved how you were constantly reassuring us that there is no such thing as perfection and that to be open to the journey of changing our teaching of reading practice as it relates to the needs of our context.

Karen”

How the Teach Along Works

A Teach Along allows you to learn a little bit, teach a little bit, get some support and refine.  You can work at your own pace or follow along with the modules as they are available. Either way, you will be supported by the terrific group of colleagues who are completing the Teach Along with you.  Live sessions are delivered via Zoom. Recordings and all course materials are all stored on my online platform enabling you to consume the content in a way that works for you.

The Reading Success in the Early Primary Years Teach Along includes 10 modules that show you literally everything you need to get your students reading in the first years of school.

You will build your confidence to teach reading as all elements of the course are broken down into small 'chunks' and presented one at a time.  This helps you and your students to get quick results and remember the reason you started teaching in the first place!

In addition, you'll receive three special bonuses.

You’ll be given access to one module per week  – so that you have ample time to dive into the lessons and implement that portion before moving on.

I do this to protect your time, attention and focus while sparing you from the intensive overwhelm that can stop us from fully realising the potential of the professional learning we undertake.

This Teach Along can be completed week by week as modules are released or self-paced to suit your own circumstances.

Working on Laptop on Bed with Coffee

Plus these bonuses to help you generate unstoppable momentum
(and keep it) so that your students end the year with a bang!

Frequently Asked Questions

Burning Questions That Others Have Asked About Participating in a Teach Along:

My school already has a phonics program. Can I benefit from this course?

Yes!  Reading Success in the Early Primary Years is not a program. It is course (and book) to help you focus on the important principles and practices of early reading instruction.

I have small children. What if I can’t keep up with the program?

There is no keeping up and no falling behind. Teach Alongs are designed to allow you to access the materials in your time and at your own pace.

There seems to be a lot of information. Are you sure I can manage it all?

Of course! If you are hungry to be a better teacher and are committed to getting results for every student, then you will be just fine. Remember, you have access to the Teach Along recordings for two years so you can take it one little bit at a time. You don’t need to implement everything all at once.

Do I need tech skills to participate?

If you can access your email, you have the necessary skills to participate. The site where the Teach Along ‘lives’ is as easy to use as clicking a button. If you have any technical difficulties, just get in touch. You aren’t on your own!

When I join up, will I get immediate access to all the modules?

No.  A module is released each week of the Teach Along (except for the implementation weeks) to give you the opportunity to take things slowly and not be overloaded by too much information all at once.

I am an early career/mid-career/experienced teacher. Is this Teach Along for me?

Yes! Whether you are an early career or experienced teacher there are things to learn from this Teach Along. For newer teachers, I will provide you with easy-to-use lesson templates and resources so that you can focus on teaching your students instead of trying to figure everything else for yourself. For more experienced teachers, you will have the opportunity to revisit many aspects of teaching practice and refine your skills.

Do I get access to the Resource Room through this course?

No, however there will be a special discounted price available for the Resource Room membership for participants in this course.

Still “Thinking About It?”

You should give Reading Success in the Early Primary Years Teach Along a chance if you are motivated by any of the following:

  • You know that there are better ways to help your children build strong reading foundations but are not entirely confident about what they are.

  • You have a burning desire to reach EVERY child in your class. Not just some.

  • You have been trying to learn more about the Science of Reading on your own but are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information out there. You just want things to be simple!

  • Your students have been getting some ok results in previous years but you want those results to be better.

  • You have a good grasp on the theory behind the Science of Reading and now need to see things in action to know how to bring it all to life.

I am super excited to be supporting you over the next 12 weeks.

Learning about the Science of Reading and how to implement it has literally changed the lives of the children in my classrooms, particularly those who are at risk in some way. Changing and refining practice is about more than system data. It is about giving children the ultimate strong start to their lives.

We know that children who start behind, usually stay behind. Very few children will ‘catch up’ in the years following their Foundation year. We also know that if we can make sure that children have fundamental reading skills in the first year of school, they are set up to achieve great things.

I can’t wait to show you how to make your teaching even stronger so that every child in your class can look at you with the spark of success in their eyes. After all, isn’t THAT why you became a teacher in the first place?

If you choose to accept my invitation to grow in your practice and commit to participating fully, I guarantee that the 12 weeks of the Reading Success in the Early Primary Years Teach Along will help you grow in confidence, skills and the ability to support every student in your class.

I look forward to meeting you inside this All-in Teach Along!

Take care,

Jocelyn
