Tuesday Tip - Less Doing and More Learning in the Classroom
In today's Tuesday Tip, I discuss how shifting from focusing on "doing" to emphasising what students are actually learning can make your instruction more impactful.

Hi, everyone. It's Tuesday, so it's time for a tip.
In their 2006 paper, Kirschner, Sweller and Clark stated, "learning is a change to long term memory."
In our schools, there is way too much doing and often not enough learning. Try and eliminate that language of doing from your conversations with others. We are doing science, well, that's great, but what are the children actually learning?
The other thing here is being able to articulate how you know that your children actually have learned something. When you can answer that question: what will the children do, know, say, and think when they know this thing, when they've learned this thing, then your instruction is going to be so much more impactful.
So my tip for this week is get rid of the doing and do way more of the learning.
